Deviated Septum
A deviated septum occurs when the wall between the nasal passages is misaligned, which can affect airflow and breathing. While some people have no symptoms, others may experience ongoing discomfort or nasal obstruction.

At OC ENT & Sinus, our team provides thorough evaluations to determine the cause of your symptoms and discuss appropriate treatment options based on your individual needs.

A deviated septum occurs when your septum, the cartilage and bone that separates your nasal cavity, is off-center. Some people are born with a deviated septum. For others, a nose injury causes it. In many cases, people are unaware of the condition unless symptoms develop.

Evaluation typically includes a physical exam and review of your symptoms. In some cases, imaging such as a CT scan may be recommended to better understand the structure of the nasal passages.
Treatment depends on symptom severity and underlying causes.
Non-Surgical Options: Medications may help manage symptoms such as congestion or inflammation.

Surgical Treatment (Septoplasty): This may be recommended when symptoms are significant. This procedure adjusts the position of the septum and may help improve airflow, depending on the individual. It is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, and recovery experiences vary.
Most procedures are completed in an outpatient setting. Recovery time and results vary by patient. Dr. Kim will review risks, benefits, and expected outcomes during your consultation.
